Money in the Bank and Still Afraid to Touch It

He had money in the bank and he was still afraid to touch it.

That sounds like a contradiction until you have lived it. The account looked fine. The work was steady. And the question he could not answer was the one that actually mattered. Can I take money out of this business right now without putting the slow months at risk?

So he did what most owners do. Nothing. He left it alone. He told himself he would decide later, when things were clearer. And later never came, because nothing was ever going to get clearer on its own.

Here is what was really happening. He was not short on money. He was short on sight. He had a pile of open quotes sitting in his own system, and he knew every one of them by name, but he had no way to look at all of them at once and see what they actually meant. Some would close. Some would not. Some would land this month and some would drag. He was carrying all of that in his head, one job at a time, and no head can hold that shape.

What we did was not complicated. We took the work he already had, laid it out by age, and looked at it honestly against how often work like that actually closes for him. Not a hopeful number. His real one.

And then the fog turned into one answer he could act on. The cash holds. It holds through the slow stretch even if he never quotes another job.

He sat with that for a second. Then he said the thing we hear from owners more than any other thing, and it had nothing to do with money.

It gives me peace of mind knowing I am not in the trenches alone.

That is the part people miss about this work. He did not need someone to tell him to work harder. He was already working. He needed to stop guessing about his own business. Because guessing is what keeps you from making the decision, and not making the decision is its own kind of cost. It just never shows up on a statement.

If you are sitting on cash and still hesitating, you are not being cautious. You are being kept in the dark by your own information. That is fixable, and it is usually faster to fix than you think, because the answer is almost always already sitting inside the work you have.

You built the business. You should get to see it clearly enough to enjoy it.

If you are tired of guessing about your own numbers, let us talk.
